Its 1-2 For Brawn GP At Australia

A race win and 1-2 for Brawn Gp rounded off an unbelievable weekend in Australia for the newest entrant into Formula-1, Brawn GP. It was the first time since 1977 that a F1 team had won in its debut, and the third time that a team had finished first and second in its first attempt. Alfa Romeo did it in the first ever grand prix in Britain in 1950, and Mercedes did it at the French GP in 1954.

It was only the second GP win for Button, who is in his 10th year of F1. He averaged 121.649 mph (195.775 kph) at the 3.3-mile (5.3-kilometer) Albert Park circuit and finished in 1:34:15.784.

Jenson Button secured a dream debut victory for the Brawn GP team after dominating the Australian Grand Prix. The Englishman led throughout and team-mate Rubens Barrichello completed a Brawn one-two after a dramatic finish. The Brazilian was promoted after Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel and BMW’s Robert Kubica collided while disputing second place with three laps to go.

Toyota’s Jarno Trulli who finished the race 3rd, was later handed a 25-second penalty after the race for overtaking Lewis behind the safety car period giving Lewis Hamilton an unexpected third. Clinching an eventual podium finish from 18th on the grid was a superb achievement for the British world champion, given the woeful performance of his McLaren coming into the race. The reigning world champion had qualified only 15th. He was then forced to start from the back of the grid when his gearbox needed to be changed before the race, as the rules require that a gearbox must last four races. A podium finish could not have been better for Mclaren who had almost given up entirely on Australia.

Heikki Kovalainen, in the other McLaren, dropped out, after an accident on the first lap. Felipe Massa and Kimi Raikkonen of Ferrari both failed to finish.
