Kimi Raikkonen admits he is in the dark over the stewards' decision to investigate his collision with Sebastian Vettel at the start of the Hungarian Grand Prix.
The Ferrari driver nudged both Vettel and Lewis Hamilton at the start. Hamilton survived the incident unscathed, but the Red Bull driver wasn't so lucky and his front left suspension gave up. The stewards later announced that they would investigate Raikkonen once the race had been completed. The Finn, though, said afterwards that he wasn't aware that the stewards have decided to investigate the incident. "I didn't notice that I had touched somebody," the Finn said on BBC. "I don't know what's going on. This is the first I've heard of it." Vettel, who was forced to call it quits on lap 30, is quite adamant that the collision with Raikkonen forced him to retire. "I had a collision," he told BBC. "I made contact in first corner with Kimi. I was on the inside, had a clean run to accelerate and then his car came sideways and yeah, we touched. He crashed into my car, so... "It can happen, but in the end I mean it was the reason why the first pitstop already was bad. And then at some point the front left suspension gave up and we had to retire the car." Kimi in the dark over investigation - Planet-F1 News - from planet-f1.com |

Both Kimi Raikkonen and Red Bull Racing have escaped punishment for the Hungarian transgressions.
Raikkonen was investigated by the Budapest stewards after the 70-lap grand prix for his driving at the very first corner, which saw him make contact with Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel. Although the impact did no damage to Raikkonen's F60, Vettel's front suspension was damaged, ultimately resulting in the German retiring from the race. Raikkonen, though, escaped sanction from the stewards. Meanwhile, Red Bull were summoned following the race due to the unsafe release of Mark Webber into Raikkonen's path in the opening round of pit stops. Had it not been for Raikkonen's evasive action, the two would've collided. Red Bull also escaped without punishment although the Hungarian stewards did reprimand the Championship contenders. No action against Raikkonen or Red Bull - Planet-F1 News - from planet-f1.com |
