Default Ferrari not 'expecting miracles' from Schumi

Ferrari President Luca di Montezemolo has made it clear that the Scuderia are not "expecting miracles" from Michael Schumacher should he replace Felipe Massa.

The German has been called up to take Massa's race-seat while he recovers from his Hungarian accident, a move that di Montezemolo admits he wasn't sure Schumacher would agree to.

"Personally, I was a bit sceptical about managing to convince him," the Italian told Germany's Die Welt newspaper.

"First of all, because every time I talked to him he always reassured me that he was happy with his current situation - finally having time for his family.

"He never gave me the impression that he was bored or desperately looking for a new challenge. All of us in Ferrari wanted to see him again in an F1 race."

Schumacher, though, is recovering from an injury of his own, which could yet curtail Ferrari's plans for him to race in the August 23rd Valencia GP. The seven-time World Champ hurt his neck in a motorbike accident back in February.

Added to that it has also been almost three years since he last raced a Formula One car having retired from the sport at the end of the 2006 season. And as a result, di Montezemolo has urged against expecting too much from Schumacher should he race.

"We are not expecting miracles from him, and neither do the fans," he said.

"Of course, I won't deny that I hope this is also a positive morale boost for the entire team. The engineers can't wait to work with him. They were all hoping that Schumacher would come back. It's a win-win situation."
