Brawn can become champions in Singapore

With Rubens Barrichello and Jenson Button starting the 61-lap Singapore Grand Prix in tenth and 12th places respectively, it is unlikely that the Brawn Mercedes will wrap up the constructors’ title at the Marina Bay circuit, but it is possible.

Should Brawn score 13.5 points more than rivals Red Bull Renault, then they clinch the championship and make history - Vanwall 1958 aside - in becoming the first constructor to claim the honour in its first year of competition.

Button and Barrichello, first and second respectively in the drivers’ championship, have seven wins between them compared to the three recorded by Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber. The addition of 13.5 point to their current tally of 146 points would give them an unbeatable total of 159.5 points heading to Japan

However, with Vettel and Webber starting second and fourth Sunday evening, the odds are that the constructors’ championship will be carried to Suzuka next weekend and perhaps beyond.

In terms of the drivers’ championship, Button enjoys a 14 point advantage over Barrichello. With 30 points still available after the Singapore race, the title cannot be decided this Sunday.
