Default US F1 Team choose Spain for European base

Quote:
The US F1 Team, who will join the Formula One grid in 2010, announced on Friday that MotorLand Aragon, an 865-acre motorsports complex located in northern Spain, has been selected as their European base. MotorLand will serve as the team’s European testing, race car development and logistics headquarters.

“MotorLand Aragon is the ideal motorsports complex for our European operation,” said sporting director Peter Windsor. “From the excellent location and weather, to the rich racing heritage and diverse track configurations, MotorLand provides America’s first Formula One team in more than 40 years with the perfect facility to manage the 2010 season and train for 2011 and beyond.”

MotorLand, in the town of Alcaniz, consists of three international standard tracks, a technology park and a world-class leisure and cultural area. In addition to dirt and karting circuits, the venue is also renowned for its Hermann Tilke-conceived and designed road course, created in collaboration with McLaren tester Pedro de la Rosa.

The US F1 Team, whose main factory is in Charlotte, North Carolina, will be housed in a 20,000-square foot facility at MotorLand, with major departments covering everything from testing and race car development to logistics and communications. MotorLand will also serve as the team’s hub and service shop in between Grands Prix.

“MotorLand is the only facility of its kind in Europe and we’re thrilled to call it our European home,” said Ken Anderson, US F1 Team principal. “Between the Formula One-inspired, Tilke-designed road course and accompanying circuits, as well as the elaborate amenities of the leisure and cultural area, MotorLand is truly the perfect complex for US F1, from both competitive and business perspectives.”
