Renault deny they're only after Petrov's money
Quote:
Renault team boss Eric Boullier has denied that the team is only interested in Vitaly Petrov because of the millions he can offer a team.
Earlier this week, reports in Bild emerged that Petrov has caught the eye of the Renault F1 team who are still looking for a team-mate for Robert Kubica.
Added to that, the newspaper claims that Petrov is willing to pay a staggering 15 million Euros for a 2010 race-seat, the money coming from his sponsors, Moscow-based bank Sberbank and Gazprom, the largest extractor of natural gas in the world.
Renault, though, are adamant that if they do sign the Russian it will be because of his talent and not his money. Petrov finished runner-up to Nico Hulkenberg in the 2009 GP2 series.
Boullier told ESPNF1: Please say we are only looking at Petrov because he is bringing a lot of money but he is not the richest driver we are talking to.
"We must not forget he came second in the GP2 Championship in 2009. His talent alone is more than enough to secure him a F1 drive."
