Default Brawn welcomes new points system

Ross Brawn is confident the new F1 points system will spur on drivers to fight it out for top spot.

The Formula One Commission on Monday confirmed that race winners will receive 25 points this year while the man in second place will score 18. The rest of the sequence is as follows: 15-12-10-8-6-4-2-1.

"There is a much stronger incentive for the person in second place to try to beat the guy in front," Brawn is quoted on BBC Sport.

"The argument is if there's only two points, it's not such an incentive. If it's seven it's much more attractive."

With refuelling banned this year, drivers will only be forced to go to the pits for tyre changes or technical adjustments to their cars.

Brawn admits it raised "a little bit concerned about how the race strategies will work out", but says teams ultimately decided against forcing drivers to make at least two pit stops

"There was mixed opinion on that," he said.

"The teams feel we should see how the racing goes and if we find we're not putting on the show we want, we'll have to reconsider.

"But we don't know enough yet to anticipate how the racing will be. We'll have to wait for a few more races before we look at changing things like that."

wont it be more tiring for the drivers as well.. but actually thinking about it pitstops would give more stress than relax a driver
