2011 is go!
Qualifying Results Sebastian Vettel has taken pole position for the Australian Grand Prix after a stunning qualifying lap for Red Bull that put him over half a second clear of second-place man Lewis Hamilton for McLaren. Mark Webber was third in the second Red Bull, with Jenson Button fourth for McLaren. The Ferrari of Fernando Alonso was fifth, with Renault's Vitaly Petrov sixth. I guess big news is Schumacher failing to make it into Q3. Both HRT's outside 107% rule, Karthikeyan clearly struggling. 01 Vettel ( Red Bull ) ( 1'23.529 ) 02 Hamilton ( McLaren ) ( 1'24.307 ) 03 Webber ( Red Bull ) ( 1'24.395 ) 04 Button ( McLaren ) ( 1'24.779 ) 05 Alonso ( Ferrari ) ( 1'24.974 ) 06 Petrov ( Renault ) ( 1'25.247 ) 07 Rosberg ( Mercedes-Benz ) ( 1'25.421 ) 08 Massa ( Ferrari ) ( 1'25.599 ) 09 Kobayashi ( Sauber ) ( 1'25.626 ) 10 Buemi ( Toro Rosso ) ( 1'27.066 ) 11 Schumacher ( Mercedes-Benz ) ( 1'25.971 ) 12 Alguersuari ( Toro Rosso ) ( 1'26.103 ) 13 Perez ( Sauber ) ( 1'26.108 ) 14 di Resta ( Force India ) ( 1'26.739 ) 15 Maldonado ( Williams ) ( 1'26.768 ) 16 Sutil ( Force India ) ( 1'31.407 ) 17 Barrichello ( Williams ) ( 1'26.270 ) 18 Heidfeld ( Renault ) ( 1'27.239 ) 19 Kovalainen ( Lotus ) ( 1'29.254 ) 20 Trulli ( Lotus ) ( 1'29.342 ) 21 Glock ( Virgin ) ( 1'29.858 ) 22 d'Ambrosio ( Virgin ) ( 1'30.822 ) 23 Liuzzi ( HRT ) ( 1'32.978 ) 24 Karthikeyan ( HRT ) ( 1'34.293 ) |

Schumacher should not have come back from retirement.. Now he'll find it difficult to retire again gracefully with a win.
Less than 2 hrs to go.. Let's see if Vettel can keep his pole position, or if his bad luck from last season continues this time too..

Final standings at the end of the race. Results look a bit predictable with no surprises compared to last year. Good drive from the Saubers and Petrov getting his first podium as well. Makes you wonder what the result would have been with Kubica around.
1 S Vettel ( Red Bull ) - 25 2 LC Hamilton ( McLaren ) - 18 3 V Petrov ( Renault ) - 15 4 F Alonso ( Ferrari ) - 12 5 M Webber ( Red Bull ) - 10 6 J Button ( McLaren ) - 8 7 S Perez ( Sauber ) - 6 8 K Kobayashi ( Sauber ) - 4 9 F Massa ( Ferrari ) - 2 10 S Buemi ( Toro Rosso ) - 1 |
