Default Kubica: We're not far behind Ferrari

Despite an under-whelming performance during testing in Valencia, Robert Kubica believes the R30 has the pace to challenge the likes of Ferrari.

Kubica was the slowest driver on show during the first day of testing, before bouncing back to post the fourth fastest time on day two, seven hundredths of a second behind Felipe Massa's Ferrari.

Despite this, the Pole maintains that in the right conditions the Renault can match the pace of the Ferrari.

"Perhaps it is because we have a shorter car than our competitors. With full tanks, we are in the running. I think in those conditions we are not much slower than Ferrari," Kubica told Auto Motor und Sport.

Critics have suggested that the R30 looks remarkably like Renault's uncompetitive 2009 model with new livery, a point Kubica disagrees with.

"It just looks like the old car, but it is new," the Pole assured.

Ferrari topped the timing charges on all three days of testing, but when asked which team he was most impressed with, the 25-year-old veered away from the Italian team.

"Clearly the McLaren. In the rear area they have a few very interesting aerodynamic solutions," he asserted.
