Default Virgin's woes continue in Barcelona

Different week, different venue but the same story as Virgin completed just 31 laps at Barcelona on Thursday.

The team started testing two weeks ago at Jerez, but their first outing was blighted by parts shortages while a mysterious hydraulic problem curtained the second.

And their tale of woe continued at Barcelona on Thursday when, after a few "smaller" issues earlier in the day, Lucas di Grassi crashed his VR01, putting an end to the team's running.

"We are continuing to debug the car hydraulics and making good progress in our understanding of the issue," said tech boss Nick Wirth.

"Unfortunately when we were running some experimental control settings on the car, which were adversely affecting its handling, this caught Lucas out on the entry to Turn Nine resulting in a spin and contact with the barrier.

"We're going to need to spend the time replacing some broken suspension and wings. We should be back on track Friday morning when we hope to really start building up our mileage."
